Editors' Take

Jennifer Cohler Mason’s ability to mix contemporary and traditional styles comes thanks in part to her many collaborations with talented artisans and craftspeople. Her background in fashion has informed a sharp eye for detail, as well as for jewelry-like lighting fixtures that embellish her interiors with the same sparkle as earrings or a brooch would an outfit.

About

J Cohler Mason Design is a full-service design firm founded by designer Jennifer Cohler Mason. Never formulaic, Mason designs interior spaces that are an artful mix of modern and classic elements. Her interiors have a comfortable contemporary sophistication that truly reflects each client's personal needs, aesthetic and lifestyle.

Throughout, Mason's approach is highly collaborative, involving not only each client but also an extraordinary group of carefully selected vendors, artisans, and craftspeople—including lighting designers, cabinet makers, weavers, painters, upholsterers, and others who contribute their well-recognized talents to each of Mason's unique projects. But it is Mason who is intimately involved with each of her firm's design projects, down to the last detail.

Mason's background as a fashion designer informs her eye for fabric, tailoring, and proportion, all of which are integral to creating warm, inviting living environments for her clients—each with an inescapable attention to detail. Her style, both engaging and fluid, is always anchored by the inherent beauty of fine materials, craftsmanship, quality, and value. Mason's expertise in sourcing statement-making, investment-worthy collectible furnishings adds another layer of unique value. She is passionate and committed to her work and design, finding endless inspiration in art, vintage and collectible design, photography, fashion, and travel.

Based in New York City, but working nationally with a focus in New York, Connecticut, and Palm Beach, Mason and her work have appeared in Architectural Digest, as well as numerous other US and international publications.
